Early Bendix Cover
Just sorting through my T parts that I have accumulated over the last 30+ years and came across a Bendix cover that looked a little different. It is an assembled cover. A similar cover is shown on page 278 Of Bruce McCalley's "Model T Ford" with a note that Ford experimented with covers like this in 1919. Do these covers show up on a regular basis or are they quite unusual?

Re: Early Bendix Cover
I have seen a lot of the one year only 19 parts. Including flywheel & ring gear. Have not seen the larger bendix cover, Unless i dismissed it as non T era.

Re: Early Bendix Cover
I had been looking for one for quite a long while. I found one this last November:
Later pressed style next to it for comparison. Here is a link to my post about it:

Here's a couple of pictures. I have sandblasted it and it needs a few hole repaired in one side where water obviously collected.

Re: Early Bendix Cover
The later version was a better cover probably because it was made from one piece of metal by looking at it. Ford must have had a parts supplier or maybe it was Ford who developed a process where the starter cover could be extruded from one piece of metal. I’m guessing but it would seem that way. I’ll bet it took less time to make and Ford would have liked that.
