Oh yea! Like the pan arm to frame nuts. Good idea!

I use a long hemostat clamp. (aka roach clip) Upper pan arm bolts & inner arm nuts.

"Chinese" fingers with one of the four tangs removed works also.

I tied ends of a 2-foot piece of dental floss after threading it through the cotter pin hole of a pan ear bolt. I stuck a thin wire through the pan ear's hole, snagged the floss and pulled the bolt through. Holding tension on the floss, I threaded it through the nut and dropped the nut onto the bolt. I have a photo but it won't load.

I’ve always wondered how those guys at the Ford factory did it!

I tape the bolts in the end of a box end wrench so they can't fall out.

Box wrench or combo wrench end with strip of shop towel crammed between wrench head and bolt head. Locitite makes a product called Fun Pack that is like silly putty but stickey. A piece of electrical tape crammed in the wrench head works in a pinch as well.

Working as a mechanic I always kept gum wrappers to wedge nuts and bolts into wrenches and sockets.

Ans once the bolt/nut is positioned I ratchet it in. Tape the nut to the end with Frog Tape is tough, sticky and shows up in dark places :)

Dan has it right. The old Sala method. Don't need anything special. Just lay the open end/box end wrench down on the bench, lay a light rag or paper towel over the box end and push the bolt head first down into the "box" and you're ready to go. It doesn't even have to go all the way into the box, it gets tight right away, Go for it!

I just weld a nut on the pan ear when the pan is off.

I use tape on the end of a box end wrench to hold the nut or bolt in place then screw the nut on. I use lock washers in those areas instead of using cotter pins. I don’t think Henry would mind by now! :)

Welding would work but have been doing the same as John for a lot of years to hold the nut for the bolts thru the wood blocks and pan ears on the starter side.
