Wiring Harness........ Not all the same.

So first of all a big shout out to a guy I'm sure everyone knows John Regan!!! What a nice guy. He spent a long time with me talking about all the electrical parts of my T. He was very helpful with many areas. One of the things he mentioned was reproduction wiring harnesses. My wiring in the T was very "crunchy" and in some places broken so i decided to order a harness from Lang's. At the time they had everything except the light harness that has the connection from the starter switch and the to the generator, lights, etc... So I got one (over a year ago from another vendor). John asked me to compare the yellow wire from the starter button with the wire from the generator (yellow w/black tracer). He said they should both be thick (same size). I did and they were not. Now he told me that it would work but it would be better with the thicker wire. So I called Steve at Lang's and they had the harness in stock. So like I said the other harness is not bad it will just work better with the thicker wire.

Make sure the connectors have all been soldered. Some are crimped only.

Yes the wiring harness aren’t all the same. My 21 Touring had to have the timer wire changed after a short. I bought a new one and it turned out that the eyes on the switch end were the next larger size than the original. It did work OK it’s just the eyes were to big. It doesn’t look as neat as the original size and the screw heads just do hold the connections on.
It depends on who makes the wiring and it seems like one of the suppliers had retired and they had to go ton to another one. That was around two years ago.

I don't know if it's still the case, but in the past some makers of reproduction wiring got "creative" with the colors. Yeah, I know, we should be grateful anybody is making new parts. But what would be wrong with making them correctly?

I agree Steve. There have been so many times that I have had to sand, machine, bend, etc. for a part to fit. I'm not just talking about fitting a new part to a 95+ year old part. Even the new to new parts. I am glad that you can get most things for the T.

I bought a complete harness from Lang's a few years back. It fit perfectly, was spot on with the colors and wire sizes were correct. Possibly there is a different supplier now.

I wish that the vendors would list the Manufacturer of the parts they sell. And I wish that the vendors would compare a new manufactures part to an original or known correct part and report any deviations back to the manufacture for correction before selling. There are parts being sold that we all know do not work and they all continue to sell them such as the 2 ball valve fuel inlet (Gross Jet) that doesn't work well with gravity fed systems . Yes, many of us cast detect these deviations and know not to use or can correct to fit, but many newbees don't know these and get caught up in frustrations when things don't fit or work right. Just listening to he chatter here would give the vendors reason to kick back to their suppliers.

I'm a little more picky than most. I also ordered a set of show quality looms from Langs many years ago and was disappointed. I found a local company to copy the originals exactly. They even wove in the original Ford script tags. Of course this all cost me three times more money.
