rear floor/sill covers
Can't find the info anywhere, should there be metal covers over the sills on my touring car? (used to be a cast iron end cap muffler now new tin)
Is trim available for under rear doors on sides ?

Yes there should be. What year car? I have an original set. Need to be blasted and tweaked a little, but they are serviceable.

I should have noted the year, body is a 23.Will_Vanderburg wrote: ↑Sun Jun 13, 2021 9:08 pmYes there should be. What year car? I have an original set. Need to be blasted and tweaked a little, but they are serviceable.
The only reference I could find for covers are for a 25 touring, nothing before that.

Re: rear floor/sill covers
I suggest studying the matter further.
My dad's 1917 touring doesn't have sheet metal over the sills. He bought the car in original, unrestored condition from the original owner in 1949.
Here's a photo I took a few years ago when he was replacing the leatherette interior door panels (note the original factory paint/drips on the inside of the door).

The original poster’s car is a 23 so they definitely had them.

Re: rear floor/sill covers
I’m thinking the low cowl touring bodies from 17-thru early 23 didn’t have the sill covers but were added to the high cowl touring bodies late 23-25. Is that right?

Re: rear floor/sill covers
I know 1917s didn't have them. Without seeing the front of his car, I cannot determine the body/hood height.
I am fairly certain his chassis has the wrong running board brackets on it, if the picture he posted of the battery area is of his car.
Lang's says the sill covers run from 1919 to 1925 Howells says 1917 to 1925.

Re: rear floor/sill covers
I have never found a set of these at swap meets. I covered the sills in my 21 Touring with some generic rubber matting. If you use the car much those metal covers will get very scratched in short order.

Re: rear floor/sill covers
It's a low hood, please enlighten me with regards to the running board brackets being wrong, how so. It is my car , picture at bottom when I picked it up, engine was out and came with a spare October 1920 engine.Will_Vanderburg wrote: ↑Mon Jun 14, 2021 2:45 pmI know 1917s didn't have them. Other pictures showing bracket rivets to frame and cowl (yes, I used the wrong head bolts because I like them).

Re: rear floor/sill covers
Running board brackets in 23 were stamped, not forged as they appear to be on your chassis.

Re: rear floor/sill covers
Thanks, many things have made me question the year but parts swapping (by year) is so common, engine block change mostly , it's a Johnny Cash song car.Will_Vanderburg wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 7:27 amRunning board brackets in 23 were stamped, not forged as they appear to be on your chassis.
I think I'm going to cut the back end off anyway (car does not have correct parts so no big lose ) and make it into a pick up but I would like to have the sides blend with rear door opening and have the sides curved like original body shape, some depot hacks look to have curved sides. Like pictures but cleaner lines.

Re: rear floor/sill covers
Has anyone on this forum done a touring car conversion ? If so can we/I see how it came out.
Picture below is from this forum, very nice car. This should be doable on a touring car. Would work great for farmers market.

Re: rear floor/sill covers
Here are some new sill covers I bought for my 21 Touring but didn’t use. They are pretty nice. They were advertised by Howell sheet metal to fit 17-25 Touring sills. They do fit but I decided not to use them. I am planning to put these in the classifieds along with some mor T parts.

Re: rear floor/sill covers
I restored the model t camel delivery. It was on a roadster not a touring. You are correct it is a very nice car. I restored it for Joe Southward in Olivet Michigan probably about 1997. It was sold after his death and I have lost track of it. It’s a 17 with a later set of wheels on it. Nice car and Joe was a very nice guy. I miss him and his wife Jane a lot.
