It’s been a LOT of years since I’ve done one. Is there some tricks!
I’ve undone the straps.
Getting to the dashboard screws looks difficult!

I just did this job last year. You definitely need to remove the dash panel out of the way. And yes those panel screws are a real pain ! After the panel is out the tank should be easy to remove.

Thank you for the verification! I was beginning to feel that I was faced with that. This is a project starting with a “field car” so I think I may just drill them out, as I will replace them anyway. A small advantage of a Canadian car as they are Robertson, so the drilling is pretty easy!

Yeah I dreaded the job but luckily all but 1 screw came out sort of easy, you almost have to be part monkey to twist your hands around underneath ! Good luck !

You shouldn’t have to remove or loosen the dash. You do have to remove the floorboards. The info on procedure is in the service bulletins.

The Bible says one thing and has pics of a closed car. On my touring. I had to remove dash and screws and one and two screws from the stantions and four bolts from steering column. Discovered and confirmed that the dust. from dash to firewall is different. Open cars are shorter than closed cars.

Adam, you DO have to remove the dash panel on a 27 Roadster …been there done that.

On my '27 touring I had to remove the steering column. A lot of people have said that you don't have to do this, but after I had everything disconnected, after two separate 1/2 hr attempts to work the tank out, I gave up and pulled the column. I also removed the "instrument cluster" from the dash, but did not disconnect any wires. This is not my favorite model T job.

Mr Gregory and Mr Codman nailed it. Been there, done that.

I was able to install the cleaned gas tank in the 1926 roadster pickup I once had with the dash in. I had to remove the steering gear and the key switch and wires, plus the floor boards were out. Place tank on hogshead and hook the, (prior restored strap lining ), tank straps to cowl hook eye. Now the hard part, even with a helper. Lift the tank up and rotate tank a little if needed to thread the ends of straps threw the fire wall. Now while holding tank up have helper start the strap washers and nuts on engine side of firewall. Don't forget to reinstall the tank drain tube when done.

Nope, just have to follow procedures (posted above). Done it probably four times. YES, there is no margin for error and it can be a real pain to get everything in proper alignment, but it can be done.

The coupes and tudors are super easy. The tourings and roadsters are much more difficult, but once you’ve done a couple of them, they aren’t impossible.

The more items out of the way the better. Tough job.
When it’s out consider replacing the welting on the cowl. You can rivet the original way.

In my previous post I mentioned removing the "instrument cluster" (such as it is) but I did not have to loosen or remove the dash.

I tried the instructions but finally removed steering column and dash. Kept jiggling the tank and it mysteriously fell out.
