Shout out for Dan McEachern

A mate found a nice replacement block for the freeze cracked original in his US import 1915 tourer listed for sale at the Tulare swap meet. I appealed for attendees who might be able to take delivery and get it close to the shipper in San Francisco. Up stepped Dan. Not only did he take delivery for us, he inspected it first and let us know it was a nice one. He took it home to Alemeda. Then he did a really nice job crating it, before delivering it directly to the shipping company in Richmond. How good is that?
With many thanks Dan. Hopefully, the car will be ready in September, 2022, for our National Rally in Dubbo. Rest assured, if you can make the tour, there will be rides for you.

Allan from down under.
P.S. It makes stark contrast with the those who find it too much bother to just post stuff to us down under.

Several years ago at Bakersfield Swap Meet
I met Dan & his wife when they donated
an upright rod drill press to The MTFCA Museum.

I was picking it up to transport it back
to the museum - I think it is part of
The Overhead Line Belt Workroom now.

I did a little interview with him at their vendor space.
I noticed a Grandfather - Son - Grandson out of
the corner of my eye stop at one of their tables.

The grandson asked about a Tootsie Toy.
Dan’s wife said it was part of a set of three
they were selling together.

A few days later I was In Klamath Falls, OR
dropping off a Model T to that Grandfather
for his son who couldn’t attend Bakersfield Swap.

You see I had met him & his other son
and his grandson just a couple days earlier
at Bakersfield Swap Meet when they looked
at the Model T that Iwas hauling up to the other son.

Then the moment came.

The grandfather was in my trailer - we had
unloaded the Model T for his son - it had
just finished trying to snow - we were talking
about how special Bakersfield Swap Meet
was …..

He suddenly became emotional.

He told me that was the first year he
was able to continue a family tradition
with his grandson that he he had
done with his two sons every year when
they were growing up - breakfast and
shopping with a toy for his sons.

They had stopped at a table - his grandson
picked up a tootsie toy - the nice lady said
they were selling the set together
( $200 if I remember correctly for three toys ).

His grandson quietly put the toy down.

Several minutes later - the nice lady
( Dan’s wife ) found them walking the rows
and gave the tootsie toy to his grandson.

He said he wished that he knew who those
folks were - I told him I knew ✅

I told him I saw what happened at the table
out of the corner of my eye.

I shot a video of him thanking Dan & his wife
and posted it on Facebook.

Every time I tell that story - I get emotional.

For me - that story sums up The Model T Family.
Most family members will extend a hand to
offer assistance - not expecting you to put
money it.

Dan & his wife are atypical of the Model T Family.

And That Family Is Extraordinary 😏

Dan is the man. How long have we known each other? Maybe half a century? Always helpful, thoughtful and willing to assist those who need it. Yes, he’s an ambassador for our club. Good guy that ol’Dan.

Dan, and his family are wonderful. I only wish I lived closer so I could visit more often. Btw, Dan recently made up some authentic copies of early valve stem hardware for those who desire the correct items.
