Thanks Kirk for the post. We know your really busy with the car getting ready for the last day.
I heard Sonny hit a deer?? Amazing nobody except the deer was hurt!! Now that's a lucky day
I heard you need to have your mechanic out on the running board going around those curves with that Coupe body...LOL

Had a good day today, almost 300 miles driving with about 204 on the clock. We saw some beautiful country along the way. We are currently 11th out of 20 cars that started and hopefully will finish in at least that position tomorrow. We have about 86 miles to go tomorrow to round out a total of 500. We had a exciting moment in the 4th leg this afternoon (temp in high 90's), leaving the starting point with a climb up a mountain. It was fairly steep and unfortunately we had a strong tailwind. This is a problem because everyone on the Montana 500 runs without a fan (too much wasted power!). Well, going slow up a hill with a tail wind, no fan and with outside temp in the 90's is a perfect formula for overheating which is what happened. The water (half antifreeze) got to 230 degrees and we barely made it up without stopping to cool down which would have ruined our time! We made it OK. My spouse, Lorna, is back home in NM and has been watching our progress on LIFE360 and got worried yesterday when we left cell coverage and her cell phone made it look like we were stopped along the road! Having a great time, will have to come back again now that Kirk Peterson (his 24 coupe and driver) and I (mechanic) will no longer be rookies. Great bunch of people to interact with, they know their Model T''s!

Gene- Yes, Sonny did have an incident with Bambi- The story that was told to me from Daniel Lukowski was... Dan had just caught Sonny and was making a pass on the left when the deer came stotting out. Sonny and Dan both slowed but Sonny being the lead, Sonny took the deer right to the radiator. Sonny's car doesn't look damaged other than some fur and deer snot. Daniel said when the deer bounced off Sonny's car he couldn't avoid it completely and whacked it with his LH wheels. Nobody was injury, but Sonny withdrew because his car didn't sound right afterword. Daniel's T didn't appear to take any damage.

Mike was fussing that engine right to the last minute. It probably went back
in the car just hours before the race !
