The story of the kitten
who fell in the well.


The well was deep
And the water cold,
the kitten did get out,
How needs to be told.

Lower the old bucket,
Down into the deep,
The kitten was crying,
And hope I did keep.

The bucket hit the water,
Beside the little cat,
She climbed aboard,
And that was that.

The bucket was raised,
She was saved this way,
The story is all true,
And it makes my day.

Another year has rolled by
I have not been planted yet,
I am still above the cold earth;
I still take what I can get.

The candles on my cake,
Will number eighty nine,
The cake will be my favorite,
Angle food is just fine.

My presents will be okay,
For they are really free,
The don’t have to have,
A 10 year guarantee.

If you look at my smile,
I still have all my teeth,
I am still on solid ground,
And not 6 feet beneath.

People say this all the time,
You look really, really great,
I thank them for saying that,
But I am not in original state.

I still have my antique cars,
And all my marbles too,
I still can see quite well,
Hearing went to “he and double l.

I will sit back and enjoy myself,
This is a special day,
I still look forward to,
What will come my way.

The spelling of my name at first was Daryl. My father changed it to Darel

I remember Henry Hillman (killed flying an airplane) Earl Hethington (moved out near Excelsior, saw him often) Betz (had a home on Stubbs Bay near me), Harry Pulver, owned a drive Inn on west Lake/Hy 7, Had a farm in Eden Prairie which I visted in later years, Pulver also drove a 1948 Chrysler woody convertible , Long, whose father was a phy-ed teacher and owned a summer camp near Grand Rapids. Jim Pollard, and others.

My dad told me that a student took a compass and scribed a long gouge on the wood of Mr. Pulver's 1948 Chrysler Town and Country when it was parked in the high school lot.

Thanks for the "email cards" and notes. I ate to much rich food on my birthday and I suffered the results. Okay now and back at work in our store in Excelsior, Mn. Gettting ready for a TOY Show in St Paul this Sunday at the fair grounds. Will have good selections of old toys including auto related. I when was a young boy I wondered if I would live to 60 or 70. I am noiw 89 and going strong, well pretty strong.
