Metal Polish

I was recently given a tube of Hagerty metal polish. Never heard of it before. It's made in the USA, and has been in business for over 100 years. Doesn't even have a bar code on the tube, but does have an 800 number. Works well, and doesn't seem to have any abrasives.

We have a 50's car with a lot of chrome. My wife used to polish it every so often and get rid of the rust streaks. Then one day she clear coated the chrome and it has not streaked in years and she does not have to polish any more. Polishing will eventually eat through plated metals too. Some people find the effort relaxing.

I am always willing to try a product I have not used before, but I have never found a better polish than FLITZ!
God Bless

I guess no one else has heard of this product either! Seems to be pretty good stuff.

I picked up a bottle of White Diamond metal polish at O'Reilly Auto Parts the other day and am absolutely impressed with how it works on my brass car.

I'm a "WENOL" polish user - brass, nickel & chrome.

Never heard of it Larry. I think I'll look into this. Not only is there an ample amount of nickle on my '26 Touring, I've got a few pre-'48 Coleman lantern founts my wife has been on me to polish. They're the ones I keep in the house on the cornice above the drapes.

FLITZ first and when needed SIMICHROME to remove tarnish & polish. Wasted money on WEIMAN and BRASSO just using to refresh/polish the cleaned metal until used up.

Brasso was the go-to stuff when I was in the army in a previous century. But what they sell under that name today is not the same product. It's pretty sorry stuff. I've tried most of them, and settled on Mother's. It costs less than many of the others, is available everywhere, and works well.

Simichrome is great for "bringing back" something that is seriously tarnished. It's expensive, sometimes hard to find (most decent motorcycle shops have it) and there's a lot of elbow grease attached to that small tube, but it works.

I also have had excellent luck with Simichrome.
You gotta work it, but the result is beautiful and lasts well.

Blue Magic has been doing a great job for me.

Ditto Flitz. It works fast and well. Maas lasts the longest. Be careful with the Blue Magic. It also works fast, but has a
lot of ammonia. Repeated use of ammonia leaches the zinc out of brass, turning it reddish. Don't ask how I know...

Bruce,
Thanks for the tip on Blue Magic. I did notice a pretty harsh ammonia smell but didn't know about the long term effects it could have on the brass. I have used Flitz before and it does work great. Brasso is definitely a no-go.

Bright boy polish has been my go to. Normally I use it on chrome.
I just did 2 black T headlight reflectors. They looked very oxidized/faded. I was concerned about wearing/damaging the silver.
Using like a cleaner with a light touch. They came out fantastic.
