Picked this up at a flea market several weeks ago. Could not get the lid off,....the jar finally broke. Lucky I did not get cut.

Lots of good stuff in there, that must have been a pretty big jar! Glad you didn't get hurt when it broke.

Wow! All that was in that jar? I'm impressed - both by the quantity of "goodies" within, and the condition of them.

I would have never thought of "canning" T parts... but it seems that they weathered quite well.

Hope you didn't pay too much. That early cast brass high fin radiator cap isn't even polished!

Well,.....the deal was the dealer wanted the jars and lids back, and I would get a refund. The jar and lid is rather rare, I'm told. Who ever put that stuff in them, did not want them opened. The lids were bonded with what looked like JB weld, but was very silvery in color. Nor heat or cold or torque could break the lids loose. They finally both broke. Hine sight, I should have just cut a hole in the top and saved the jar.

Which brings me to an observation. In the very first post mention was made of JARS. How did putting things in glass jars ever become "canning"? Here in Australia we preserve, in preserving jars.

After closing the jars, did you boil them to preserve the parts longer?
