1927 Touring top iron Pivot bolt question

My car has threaded rod and nuts for the pivot bolts for the top iron, I bought Pivot bolts from Snyder's T-3861 "Top Iron Mounting Studs" They are longer which I was hoping for but I can't pull the top out far enough to get it off the old stud, I'm trying with the top down if that matters.
Is there a trick to this, can anyone tell me what the dimension should be from pivot eyelet to pivot eyelet, also do I have the new stud in the correct orientation?

My thoughts:

You have the stud oriented correctly. A cross car measurement isn’t really necessary; everything just lines up. You probably want to paint the studs as the raven finish will eventually corrode.

I’m assuming this is a Touring body. The Runabout irons are more flexible. If you extend the top irons so that the “scissor” mechanism is extended, you will find it it easier to spring the top iron off the end of the stud.if you do this in the driveway you can leave the rear bow in the saddle and tie the front bow to something overhead.

There is not a captive nut inside the body. You are going to have to remove part of your upholstery to get a wrench on the nut.
