Vaporizer Carb. question

How important is it to use the heat pipe that was made for the Vaporizer carb.?
and how rare are they to find

What heat pipe? I do have a small sheet metal shroud that fits over the intake. It sort of directs the intake air from side draft(horizontal) to up from the bottom(vertical).
I understand it was used on earliest production & eliminated for being unnecessary.

I got that backwards. The carb opening is pointed down. This tin piece redirects air from a horizontal direction.
