from Ford Times
Many motor car manufacturers during the early 20th century published in-house magazines or periodicals as a way to both bolster company spirit or morale and promote their products to a burgeoning customer base. There was the Buick Bulletin, the Hudson Triangle, the Marmon News, the Lozier Accelerator, Studebaker’s The Wheel and many others. Some companies went so far as to have separate publications for their workers and customers. REO, for example, had The REO Spirit for its employees and The REO Review for its clients.
Ford Motor Company was certainly no exception to this practice. Ford Times chronicled everything Ford-related, including corporate developments, company policy, dealership news, promotional events, and more. Its coverage wasn’t limited to domestic goings-on as it routinely reported on the latest happenings with Ford subsidiaries and distributors around the world.
The cover of the 1911 issue pictured here shows a dapper gentleman out for a jaunt in his Model T with his faithful canine companion. The accompanying article, the lead story in the same issue, takes a look at how Ford maintained and utilized its vast stores of replacement parts. Ford held self-sufficiency in very high regard, even considered it something of a virtue, for itself as well as for its customers. This article goes into some detail how Ford went about ensuring a steady and sufficient supply of components to keep the ever growing legions of Model T’s on the road in America and around the world.

Re: from Ford Times
The publisher of the Ford times must have thought the cover needed a bit of a classier T rather than the basic 11. RHD, Front doors, etc.

The FORD TIMES continued into at least the mid-50s and perhaps longer; My father was a Ford truck salesman and received a copy each month.

Re: from Ford Times
Even thou the inside page states USA, I believe that is an issue for England. The body style is either English or Australian. The is no date on the cover. Al my USA copies up to April 1917 have a date on the cover.

Re: from Ford Times
Ford Times was published from 1908-17, suspended from 1917-1943, and started publishing again from 1943-93. The second run was quite a bit different from the first in that it was much more a lifestyle magazine than the pure publicity 'vehicle' of the original run. The second run covered a far wider range of topics beyond Ford and its products.

Re: from Ford Times
The Ford Times was suspended in mid 1917 due to the shortage of paper because of the war.
There is USA, Canadian and British versions. not sure if there is a European one.

Re: from Ford Times
Yeah it seems there was a UK version as well, that did not stop publication in 1917.
I see various iterations "for sale" on eBay from the 1930's. Most (if not all) from UK based sellers.

Re: from Ford Times
Steven,
Thank you for posting! If you can look at the original and tell if it has a one piece or two piece front spindle, that would help date the car. The one piece spindle began to be replaced in USA production with the much more common two-piece front spindle starting Jan 31, 1911 with engine/ car# 36,972 (ref page 439 & 492 Bruce McCalley "Model T Ford").
The car on the cover appears to be a mostly original style mid-1909 to 1910 touring body that has been retrofitted with an aftermarket cowl, windshield and front doors. A very early 1909 body would normally have the rear door handle located a little lower.
If they say anything about the car in the magazine that could also possibly date the car please let us know. For example something like Mr. John Doe's 19xx car has traveled xxxx miles in X number of years. Or something similar to help date the car.
And yes, one of the major advantages of the Ford was the great dealership support that had parts repair them and keep them going. (Lots of after market suppliers also -- but sometime the parts did not function as well as the original Ford parts.)
Again, thank you for sharing the illustration and article.
Respectfully submitted,

When I was in the 7th grade, bookshelves along one classroom wall held a large stash of Ford Times from the late 40s into the mid 50s.

Re: from Ford Times
Hap, The white Ford is a British version which like Australia built bodies on the Ford supplied chassis were more in keeping with the tastes of the local population. The fact it appears on the cover of a USA Ford Times showing it with white paintwork and brass hub covers with the curved cowl, front doors and different windscreen shows Ford USA recognized it was a proper example ( just different looking)
If you look at the Ford on a general basis it's the Ford chassis not the supplied factory supplied product that Ford USA built that says its a Model T. If you paid to have a Depot Hack or any other different type body built on your new Ford chassis it still is a correct model for the year it is bought just not the basic factory job.
A Ford T of any year may be exactly as it left it's factory be it in England, France, Australia or any other country with a local body.
In Australia when Model T's were being found and restored there was a mind set that it could only be as was the case in America. Numerous Model T's had the original bodies removed and a replacement one was built which was year correct for USA.
Having a Model T with a different body to the USA common everyday example should be just as relevant and to me more valuable and desirable that the common basic factory one.
I don't know how the USA Ford Times numbering system works, the one in question says it's Vol 4 No 3, has anyone a later Ford Times which lists the volume and Number as well as the Month of the year. My Canadian Ford Times start in June of the year and go to July of the following year, so No 3 would be August.
