Scat Crankshafts

I've searched All the vendors and called Tom at Scat trying to find a replacement Stock Scat crankshaft for my engine rebuild. OUT of Stock!!!

I was told they will be starting another run of Model T cranks in early October or late September. I want to replace my Bill Dubat crank with a new stock Scat.

This is just an example of how much we in this hobby depend on the vendors. Sometimes we see somebody bashing or complaining about their service. We all go along happy until we really need something from one of them and then can't get it. Just an example of how great these guys are and we need to give them a Thanks when we get parts we need!

You said it Gene, we are all better off for the efforts of those who provide us with parts & service.

I have one in one of my T's and I can say, it runs very smoothly. I purchased mine about 4 years ago directly from their location in Redondo Beach and took it directly to the bearing shop to have it fitted into my engine. It does not have any strange vibrations at any speed which I normally drive.
Some of the problems we face is that we are all getting older and not as many younger people are as interested in Automotive history as our generation. Especially those of who are older and remember seeing the Model T's as daily drivers and occasionally even a horse and wagon. It was not uncommon to see the horse and wagon somewhere along San Fernando Road in the Los Angeles area.
The problem also affects some of the manufacturers of the parts we rely upon. And the COVID restrictions have also affected things.
Anyway, I hope that SCAT will continue to make crankshafts for many years to come.
Norm

Why do you want to replace your Dubat crankshaft? We have one in an engine and it continues to give us good service.

It's a volume thing, orders need to be in bulk when ordering from china, the T scats are cast in china and machined in the USA, place a order, dollars up front for a large number run, does scat want a heap in stock when sales are slow? We have the same problem in Australia with a lot of overseas parts, dealer ships are running out of storage space on repairs waiting. I haven't been able to get an 8 volt battery for several weeks and they come from the USA, promised in October

Like all hobbies, need to think in advance and get when available. Anything in this hobby and others. I have a scat on order from the next batch just to stash back for my next build

Gene. You need to tell them what happened. Curious minds are asking.

Yes Don, for sure but I can't say anything yet until I get into the engine. Stay Tuned

I jus bought a scat crank from a well-known vendor about two weeks ago. Maybe it was the only one they had. Maybe I was lucky.
