Now I am finding lots of info on the Hucks Starter, much of it here on MTFCA already! I was going down the wrong road, since the original photo I found was in a NACA archive that called it a 'Huck' starter, when it should be 'Hucks' starter; invented by Bentfield Hucks of the Royal Flying Corps. The dog clutch that selects whether the transmission output goes to the Hucks Starter chain drive sprocket or the drive shaft to the rear differential is neat. (Photo from http://www.vintagewings.ca/VintageNews/ ... Years.aspx ) Thanks to you who have helped me get on the right road! It's fascinating.
