Will an open spool fit on a housing that was made for a closed spool? I see the opposite will not fit. But I have a later spool and I was wondering if it would fit on an earlier housing.

Yes. The distance between the 2 faces are the same. You will have to use the later thrust bearings.(open spool)

Thank you so much. I was measuring the two and I thought it would work. I am a machinist so I make my own modern bearing spools. I could alter my dimensions a little bit to make it work if I had to.

If you have any junk axle housings the tube works good for the spacers.
