No timing mark

Well it has been a long winter but I have started to assemble this old coupe after almost 60 years of setting in pieces in a barn. I am impressed that it was about 85% complete and no major rust or damage. I even found the reason they took it apart, bad magneto and starter. Well replaced both got her painted while off the frame and just started reassembling the motor and trany. Now to the problem; The timing mark on the crank is unreadable so I placed the number 1 piston at Top Dead Center but can anyone tell me if that is right or is there a better way? You guys have been a great help and thanks to you all another T will raise from the ashes.
