Does anybody know if the brake equalizer kits for a large drum can be fitted to a RHD car?
If so do you just invert the system or does it require modification.
Thanks

Kevin, my experience when fitting Bennett brakes to my 1917 shooting brake, the equaliser I bought from Snyder's as simply sapped end for end across the frame. At worst, a LHD one will show you how it works, and offer a way modify it if needed.
Hope this helps.

Pretty easy to fabricate one to your liking using an old donor forward brake cross over. Cut down and install forward of the existing one with a float attachment. Sorry I did not take photos years back.

I have one on my LHD 1926 T. The part itself looks like it could be installed either LHD or RHD, but I cannot say if it will interface with RHD components or interfere with the exhaust pipe. My best GUESS is it would work for RHD.

Ok thanks guys.
So expensive to freight to NZ I wanted to be sure it would work.
Thanks

Make your own out of 3/4 inch rod. I made one like the one shown in the link. I didn't use the short bar with levers for the equalizer, just a piece of flat stock. Worked fine on my 21 with AC/Rocky Mt brakes and on at least 2 other cars that I have installed them on.

Nice thing about this type, the swing can be made to go under an add-on transmission.

Thanks Mark. I would rather have them made here.
Is there any detailed drawing available?
I have a LHD car also so either type drawing would be great.
Thanks

No drawing, I just winged it when I made mine. I will try and dig one out tomorrow and take a few snaps and dimensions.

All dimensions are approx. 11" across, 4" from top clevis hole to center of parking brake cross shaft, 6" to center of sliding crossbar. Tab to mount equalizer, 2 1/2" flat stock by 4" long. Equalizer bar 10" center to center for clevis pinholes 1-1/2" flat stock. I bent the ends down on the first ones I make, but found worked just fine leaving flat. For the adjustable rod between the brake pedal and equalizer, notched it using a saws-all to fit the clevis I was using, allowing a bit of wiggle room. For mounting to parking brake cross shaft, U-bolts were used. Do not need an eazy-slider with this setup, it clears the pan and dip in the parking brake cross shaft, so does not move the brake pedal when parking brake is applied.

The force torque should be about the same as the equalizer sold. Mounted on the car;

Forgot the thickness of the flat plate, I used 1/4 inch. For the bolt at the equalizer, I used 1/2 inch fine thread with unthreaded shoulder and bronze/brass washers between, drilled and locked with cotter/split pin.
