What is the canister on the 1926 T running board used for?

Seems like Jay did an “accessory of the day” write up on early road flares a while back... looked sumpin kinda like these

Thank you gentlemen for your replies. I absolutely believe that's what it is.
I got to thinking what a kind soul that Model T owner is. Since T's never break down, he/she carries this accessory to help out their stranded buddies who drive Dodges, Chevs, etc..
Perhaps the odd T does break down, and it's a Canadian one to boot, eh!
It's probably from the added weight of those fancy top holder down thingies.
I don't see any 600W oil on the pavement!?

I remember smudge pots as a kid. Always thought they were so neat. I managed to "acquire" one once much to my mother's chagrin!
And look at the muscle on that lady's calf!! Wow. Don't think I woulda wanted to tangle with her.
