missing screw/bolt on timer?

Post by NY John T » Sat Sep 25, 2021 4:16 pm

Hi All,
I took off the timer cover and saw that the roller just spins around the shaft. Is there supposed to be a screw or bolt to lock the roller on to the shaft? I'm assuming there is, and that it is missing. Here's a photo of what I have. There is a hole directly behind the large nub. Does anybody know the size or type I can use? Or a source for it? Thanks.

Go online and look at the suppliers. There should be a short, headed pin in the hole and cap that fits over it to holds it in place. Here is a sample shown in Lang's catalog, but they all should carry them; https://www.modeltford.com/item/3206.aspx
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

Cut a little nail about 1/4” long to fit in that hole to stabilize the roller on the cam. But you’ll need a specialized cupped washer to cover that nail head to keep it from falling out. Then tighten the nut onto the end of the cam. Most any T hobbiest has extra of these. If you can’t find one locally, I’ll send you one.
I don’t know why I turned out this way. My parents were decent people 🤪

Thanks Guys. I see the pin and cupped washer. I'll order it. I have timer covers that have rubber tabs that are on the outside for oiling purposes (?)

Some cam shafts have that little hole on one side. No problem there. Some have it all the way through, so you can easily get the roller installed 180º off from where it belongs. Beware.

When you order the pin and the cover washer buy 2 each. They are cheap and and it’s good to have extras.
