Model T prevails at the races!

We went racing at the RPM drags at Santa Margarita. Not with Wild Cherry. I dropped a valve seat on the Gemsa head getting ready for the race last weekend in Auburn. It’s ugly. Anyway, the Cherry can’t race at RPM because they’re sticklers about period equipment so it can’t race there. We took the Blue model T we raced at Lincoln in June. This car was built by speedster Hall of Famer Chris Egsgaard, AKA Billy Poohbah, to race at Long Beach and it bagged him the King of the Hill crown in 1973. Original Rajo BB, Winfield D carb, Fronty pan and 39 box with Zephyr gears. This thing was bad news then and still is. Fastest 4 banger at the drags, beat all the hot model A’s. There were a couple of blown V8 flatheads that were quicker but not much. Had a great day for sure. I will try to get a picture up.

This pic was taken in Nebraska. The blue car was very fast there too and the Wild Cherry took King of the Hill there. The first model T to do so.

Very quick model T. I can’t drive it being too big to get in it but I do get to work on it a lot.

Erik B,
I don't know if you ever knew Larry Streeter or not. Back in the Shell Hill climb days, and when I was just a kid getting into this hobby, Ed Archer and Larry Streeter were very good friends. Ed, I am sure you know, is on the shorter side of tall. Larry was somewhat taller, and heavier. However, for many years, Larry and Ed had worked side by side working on their cars. To that end, Larry did a lot of work on number 4 back in those days. Ed and Larry along with their families, went down to the hill climb together for quite a few years. I recall that one year, Ed and I were talking about a week before they were to head down for the Hill climb. Ed told me "THIS year, I don't care what it takes to squeeze Larry into number 4, HE is going to take a run up the Hill in number 4!" "He has worked on her enough, and he deserves to drive her up that Hill!" Sure enough. In the many photos of the Hill climb that year, were photos of Larry Streeter driving number 4!
I never did get down there for the Shell Hill climb. One of my many regrets.
