Manifold gasket?

Post by Oldav8tor » Sat Oct 02, 2021 8:44 am

My friend is looking at replacing exhaust and intake manifold gaskets. I recall discussions where it was pointed out that some were better than others. I’m not at my laptop to research it so can somebody point us in the right direction?

The rings and Gland style are the best. If the exhaust manifold is straight, they will keep it from warping.

Whatever type you use, be sure to place the glands between the manifold and the block. Especially so of the exhaust manifold. Exhaust manifolds get hot and the weight of the tail pipe tends to pull the back down. When it cools it stays deformed and will eventually sag so that you can't get a good seal. The glands will keep the back up and the center down so that it remains straight.

Many of the decisions on the manifold gasket choice have to do with the condition of the exhaust manifold. So you should check that first, it will make a difference on your purchase(s).
