23" Hayes demountable wheels/rims

Unlike other fixed lug rims supplied for T models, 23" Hayes beaded edge rims have the foot on the lug which goes in over the outer edge of the felloe. This requires a relief in the outer edge of the felloe to allow the lug foot to go on over that edge. 23" Hayes wire wheels, and Hayes wooden spoked wheels fitted to Overlands and perhaps others, have the outer edge of the felloe rolled in and a depression pressed into that edge to accommodate the lug foot.
In another thread Steve Jelf posted a photo of a Hayes felloe without the rolled in outer edge, and a simple relief made in the vertical edge of the felloe. On our Canadian sourced cars such felloes only came with the 21" wheels on the 26-7 T's.
What is the general consensus on this with US cars?
