Question About Steel Rim Tires

Are the 11/2" rim liners ok for my 1927 wheels or do I need the 5" wide rim flaps?

The narrow ones are fine for wire type wheels with drop centers. They are there to protect the tube from any ruff areas over/around where the spokes were welded to the fellow.
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas! :shock:

Narrow rubber band liner for wires, wide flaps for demountable rims.

Gorilla tape will do the same thing for a lot less money!

I use it on all my wheels, no flaps, no problems either. JMHO

Use narrow rim strips in your wire wheels, the rubber strip protects the tube where it rides in the drop center. That area has the weld joints of the spokes that can rub and wreck a tube.

Never use a flap in Ford welded spoke drop center rims. If a flap is used, the tire casing can’t be squeezed into the drop center, and if installed, later removal of the tire is near impossible due to that thick flap!

IMO, refrain from duck tape, it will decompose over time and shed into plastic fiber mess. Have cleaned up lots of that stuff from clincher rims too.
