Anyone have any experience with these? Pro con love them or hate them? Advice on how to properly line them or just hang on the wall?

I like the idea, but any wear at the hinge points would probably cause trouble. Hinged bands could be easier to install and could give better engagement, but everything would have to be in good condition and would have to stay that way in service. That seems like a tall order to me. Standard bands that are properly lined and installed work pretty good, and have fewer potential failure points.

Look up how Herm would line bands. Basically same as your hinge bands, but without the hinges.

Dan that’s so funny I was just thinking about Herm’s technique yesterday when pulling some bands out of a T. I never had the guts to try it but in away it really makes some sense. Never understood how it didn’t peel the bands off with only a couple of rivet’s fastening it to the band. Anyone out there that uses that method? love to hear the experience.

I know they were an accessory available for the T, but I believe hinged transmission bands were standard for the N R S.

I believe if they had been better than the one piece type we would have seen more of them.

as far as how many are using Herm's technique, I'd think it would be virtually every single one of his customers of which there were many, none of which I have ever heard badmouthing his work. It was advice given "back in the day" and he found good success with it.

As far as peeling off, I believe that every rivet in the band was used, so the rivet count is not reduced.

Is Herms method leaving a gap between 2 shorter lining halfs @ the bottom?

I have a set of three hinged bands. They are wall hangers for display only. I do not have experience using them

I'd think the Herm method would allow the band to clamp more evenly on the drum with a little less pedal pressure. Oiling and heat dissipation would likely be improved. Installation of the band assembly might be a little easier, too. Any tendency of the lining to bunch or wrinkle would probably be reduced.

I have a set of hinged bands that was made by Raybestos. They are well made. I have them in my 26 Coupe that I drive about 1000+ miles per year. They have been in the car at least 10 years. No problems with them and I haven't had to change the band linings yet.

If I recall correctly, it may have been Ed Archer that sold a set of the hinged bands in our classifieds just a few months ago. I have only seen a few of them over the years, and never had one myself
As for Herm's method? I like the idea, and in theory it should be good. But I have never tried it.

Yes Ed Sold two hinged bands to me and I got the third one from some one else, don't remember who. I only wanted them because of the oddity. I have a small collection of after market accessories for the T

Thanks all for the feedback. I looked back on Hermes old thread and it looks like his method would lend itself well to these bands. Keep the thoughts and feedback coming.
