Rod nut spines but won’t come off

Post by Unprr » Sat Oct 16, 2021 3:32 pm

I’m in help of a little help. I’m checking the shims on my 27 Model T and was replacing the cap and oil dipper, when one of the nuts stated to just spin on the bolt. It will not go on or come off.?
The bolt is not turning.
Has anyone experienced this problem and if so, how do I remove it.

George

Try turning the crankshaft so the rod faces straight down. Then put a small punch smaller than the bolt between a jack and the center of the bolt. Then put a little pressure on the jack and use an open end wrench to back off the nut. After you get it off, use a different bolt and nut.

Get another rod bolt and castellated nut. Should be plenty of extras in your club or contact me and I’ll send you a set.
I don’t know why I turned out this way. My parents were decent people 🤪

Use a pair of vise grips to grip the nut and slowly get it turn as you pull it down. Usually this will work for any stripped nut.

I will be under my car tomorrow. I will try the first option, since I tried the vise gripes.
I should have another bolt, in my treasure of parts. LOL.
Thanks for the help.

Since you'll be replacing the rod bolt and nut anyway, why not use a nut splitter to remove the nut?
