Cadmium Plating Service Needed

Can anyone recommend a good, reliable cadmium plating company ? The parts are small enough to ship, I am in Ohio.

Cadmium plating has long been outlawed in Australia, due to serious health issues for the workforce and heavy metal contamination. The alternative is zinc plating and it is now available in a range of colours, one looking just like cadmium. The yellow look of cad plating has disappeared in all fasteners/bolts etc. Any electroplater should be able to advise you of present operations.

Since cad plating has been mentioned here, I'll take the opportunity to correct one of those Model T superstitions that refuse to die. Cadmium plating came into general commerical use in the thirties, after Model T production ended. Model T rims were NOT cad plated. They were galvanized.

Would it be hot or electroplated?

I don't know. I had mine hot dipped.

I have seen more far more electro plated zinc rims than hot dipped galvanised rims. Hot dipped rims are really scarce on our Canadian sourced cars.
The beauty of electro plating is it is generally much cheaper and does not usually require a big batch of rims to make it economical. It can be closely matched by painting with aluminised paints. When I want to refresh the look of electro plated rims, I brush a coat of aluminised paint straight over the plating. The disadvantage is the plating is not as durable as hot dip galvanising.

Tom, if Zinc will work, there is a small place up by me I can put you in touch with. He likes small jobs , is cheap and does a nice job. He has a tumbler plater for small nuts and bolts, too. The big cad platers nearby are too busy to consider small jobs. You have my email
