Does anyone repair cutouts?

I think the one on the left is a John Regan voltage regulator. You might contact him (he's on this forum) and ask. I don't know about the other.

The one on the left can be normally repaired by cleaning the points, and adjust so that the points close at about 6.5 to 7 volts. I clean and check mine once a year.
It is simpler to use a diode, but they can fail and burn up the generator armature like what happened to me when I tried a diode

Here is a cutout with diode inside. Note that a diode is not a voltage regulator.

The correct operate voltage for the reverse current cutout is 7.2 volts which is the charging voltge for a 6 Volt battey.

Ron,
Thanks or the info. Four years ago I guessed at the voltage. I used 4 d cell batteries at the time and it worked. I now have a very good laboratory grade dc power supply.
