Will an Aluminum Hogshead allow enough room for a Flywheel w/ring gear for future conversion to a Starter Hogshead & starter. if an Engine had to come out for a repair would that be a good time to add the Flywheel w/ring gear? George

Absolutely. Definitely.

Why not go ahead and add the cast iron starter cover if you going to add the flywheel and ring gear. Just wondering. You can get it done and be done with it. It’s easier to put the starter cover on first and get any fit up issues done before putting it on in the car. It would be a lot less hassle for sure. My opinion of course!

I do them all the time, just in case we all get old some day it is there to just switch the hogshead!

All the flywheels made after 1919 had the ring gear for a starter and the transmission had blank off plates, so you could upgrade later, if you were a little short of the purchase price.

There are some Model T engine and frame parts that were not changed after the first few years of production.

You can upgrade a 1911 engine with a 1926 transmission cover, if you change the flywheel, you just can't use the two bolt holes on top.

A 26-7 trans cover may bolt on an 11 but the pedal shafts will not align with the bands. If you change the whole trans to make the bands line up with the pedal shafts, the pan will not fit due to the wider brake band. Staying with any of the earlier parts without the wide brake drum gets around these complcations.
