27 motor

Last weekend I purchased several engines for cores. While this is most times a krap shoot, so far so good. I don't see any cracks or bad parts and even most of the drums are good. Whild dismantling these engines, I found a 27 motor that is in really good shape under the dirt and rust BUT, I find that there is no hole in the block for a throttle rod and the valve cover has no hole. I assume this came from the factory with a vaporizer and was not an adapted motor. Am I right? Anyone have more thoughts on a motor like this?

My '27 with matching engine and frame numbers is that way. I gave up on the vaporizer carburetor but did not want to punch out the membrane so I ran linkage over the top of the engine and now,run an NH. I have seen them both ways but assume that is because someone punched out the membrane to run the throttle rod through the block.

That '27 with that feature of no hole is indeed Jan. 1927 issue, with Vaporizer then standard, nice thing about those late engines is the crankshaft will be a 'EE" steel crank, good to have ;)

I will know tomorrow. Right now, I have 2 EE cranks and 1 heavy crank and 2 more 26/27 motors to dismantle. I have found some good parts and some unusual add ons that I will show you later.

I got your email but don't have that here. I am not selling any parts right now so I can supply customers that need replacements for rebuilds. If I decide to part some of these out, I will keep you in mind.

Thanks, James.

I also, didn't get an EE crank out of the vaporizer motor and that crank looks like a candidate for the scrapper. Lots of damage even for a big cheek crank.
