Later Model T Window Sticker
For almost 50 years, I have known of a 1926 coupe that has a well worn sticker on the bottom left corner of the windshield. From what I recall, it was a notice to the customer about break in speed for the first 500 miles, general care, tire size, etc. The car has never been apart; it may have been “brushed-up” in the 1950s or 1960s. My question is: could the sticker be original to the car from the dealer or a mid-twentieth century addition?
Thank you!
Thank you!

Not that it really helps? But, back in the 1960s and '70s, someone was reproducing those stickers and they were being sold by parts dealers and at swap meets back then. So, it would be possible for it to have been put there at that time.
Interesting to consider is that even if it is a reproduction, and was applied about 1970? It will have been on the car longer now than the car was old then!

There were also WWII ration stickers being reproduced.

The folks I just restored the 22 for wanted the original gas ration sticker left on the windshield. They remembered the tire saving notice on the backside. The original was too fragile and came away with the masking tape so I replaced it with a reproduction. They are still deing made. Art

This is sticker you are referring to?
It is on one of my early 11 Touring cars. I am sure it must be a reproduction as car looks to have been restored in maybe 60 or 70’s . Dan.

Here is an original 1932 Chicago Vehicle Tax sticker on the original windshield of my 1926 Fordor, currently listed on eBay. I’m glad the windshield was never changed out. Is there a safe way to remove and preserve old waterslide decals like this? It would be a shame to lose it. Jim Patrick
PS. The 1954 “Oak Lawn” Vehicle Tax sticker above the 1932 sticker shows that the Fordor was still in the Chicago area 22 years later as Oak Lawn is a suburb of Chicago.

fun stuff, but that plate glass NEEDS TO COME OUT!
Please consider relegating the original windshield to your personal museum and get a safer modern version of glass for your car.

Re: Later Model T Window Sticker
Scott,
Thank you for your advice. If I gain ownership of the car, I will do so. The reason I am hung up on the sticker is that when I first saw the car 50 years ago the Ford dealer who owned it said the sticker was original. The car can be traced to a Ford dealer in a nearby town that sold it new. Both dealerships have since closed. For the sake of history and the story, I would really like to verify whether this claim could be true.

Re: Later Model T Window Sticker
There were a few of these stickers placed by dealers, early and later for starter equipped cars. The Use only Ford parts was a later add, mentioned in a Service Bulletin and offered to dealers from the Branches, to be placed in trunk lids to inform owners!

Dan,
Thank you. With this information, the history of the car, and the remnant of the sticker on the windshield, I would assume it is,indeed, from when the car was new.
