Folks...I can only hope this link works. I have been patiently waiting for this Canadian TV ad to be available so I could share it with you. It's a short section from the 7 to 11 second timeframe. Enjoy! Again, I hope you're able to view it.

Many still believe all they see in a commercial…this will set back Model T knowledge of The Universal Car another 100 years!

Hopefully that picture is staged! I can remember my Mother telling me when my Father and Uncle pulled home my Grandfathers 24 Coupe in the early 60’s that you can really hurt yourself if your not careful trying to start it.
She reminded me of a girl in College with her hurt herself really bad when cranking and caused some internal body damage. She overstrained herself is what she said.
Thinking about it later she probably ruptured herself internally. This was in the 1920’s when she attended college and there were people getting hurt someway and it probably was more common than we think.
I wonder if the Ford dealers mentioned hand cranking and being careful doing it. :?:

First off, they are trying to sell cheese, not make a historical documentary. The theme of “old ways” includes a text response “LOL” sent by post and other silly perceptions of modern lifestyle using early technology.

But focusing on the Model T “5 seconds of fame”, my first thought was “that’s a pretty ‘13.” Next, I rewound to see where the spark lever was set. I then thought that I can’t “wind up” my recently rebuilt ‘14 like that, even with the ignition turned off, too much compression. I wonder if they removed or loosened one or more of the spark plugs… The special effect/pyro effect of the steam or smoke from the upper radiator as the car started was a weird thing to go to the trouble of adding, if anything, I would have put a smoke puff at the back of the car.

But all silliness aside, I still think that it’s a pretty ‘13. 8-)

It's definitely a nice looking car. The cheese looks good, too. Most likely, whoever set the ad up couldn't drive a VW Beetle with a stick shift, and insurors probably would not allow the car to be started by any means while on the location. I like seeing old cars in ads. It would be nice if certain details were presented accurately. It looks like that driveway may have enough slope to allow letting gravity start the car.

I think it’s called dramatization. As if model Ts are boring in their natural form. Just like country people say “city folk” and I’m sure the reverse is true also. Lol

At ease ladies and gentlemen, reality still exists for those who wish to engage with it.

As the quaint seventies phrase would have it, she's cruisin' for a bruisin'. :D

I’ve seen similar cranking attempts from fellow T owners….

No worse than an old Laurel and Hardy movie. I doubt anyone would think it's real or attempt it themselves. It was all for the shot, she had to face the camera! I do like how the car started to shake and the engine began to run while she was still cranking though.
