Paint Removal on 1927 Coupe

Post by BLB27 » Thu Dec 02, 2021 2:23 pm

The paint has been removed from my coupe using crushed glass. No problems noted.

It took 5 1/2 hrs. to do the things shown in the photos. I had previously taken the rear fenders, running boards, splash panels, package tray, and brake handle assembly to the blasters shop as a "test" for problems. It took 1 1/2 hrs. for those eight pieces.

Nice job. Abrasive blasting is fine if done by someone who knows what they are doing. Put epoxy primer on the bare metal.

Bruce, VERY NICE JOB! I recommend etching primer prior to the epoxy but that is just me.

Be sure to get ALL of the grit out of very nook and cranny. There are a number of places that will trap it. If you paint over it, it's bound to cause trouble over time.

Yes make sure you remove all the abrasive in the cracks and crannies. Use air to blow out all the seams and etc. Go over the body and fenders 2-3 times to make sure you get it out.

Good neighbors and friend are always great for job like this, would hate to say how many times I have used them for this type of work.

John Kueln, I followed your advice. I repeatedly vacuumed and use compressed air in crevices and surfaces. Blowing those areas with compressed air really worked well. Thanks.
