Tire chains on my Roadster

Post by Tmodelt » Thu Mar 28, 2019 7:00 pm

I just rescued a pair of Dreadnought tire chains, complete with box. The box is marked 4.40 x 29 balloon. They fit snugly in my 4.40 x 21 tires on my 23 Roadster. Does anyone know their value?

Other than wondering why your car is sporting that sized tire, I'd say they are a great curiosity or display piece, but have limited value. I think it was Bob Bergsteadt that was selling a tool box with chains in it, and I don't recall them being a barn-burner sale item.

Scott those were my tire chains in the running board box. I was hoping you would buy them to get out of your driveway! LOL BROTHER!

I keep them for you for next year since the season is over.

All the Best,

Hank in Tin-A-See

I paid $40 for my good usable set of tires chains for 21 inch balloon tires. They were in the original canvas bags.... which certainly weren't display pieces! However, the chains work great! :D

29 x 440 is what the original 21 in balloon tires were called, just like a 30 x 31/2 is on a 23 in rim the 29 x 440 was on a 21 in rim. I have a 29 x 440 as a spare on one of my cars.

Thanks Dennis. I learn something new every day. I was more intrigued with the box, but now I also have a reason to mount my skis to the front. I have skis but no tracks.

HANK!

it's all about timing! If I'd only known THEN, that you are right, NOW!

Sure could've used them 2 weeks ago...sorry about the wrong attribution...did they finally find a new home? I thought the extra-low tool box was just as interesting as the chains, to be honest!
