Photos of my 1927 coupe front axle are attached. Should there be a cutter key on this nut?

Not only a cotter pin, but be sure the nut is the proper special nut with a convex bottom to mate to the concave surface of the wishbone.

Hope those nuts are loose also the perches, so you can line them up when spring is installed? That one perch looks 90 degrees out of alignment.

I have not seen a nut like that one! Whatever nut is used, it does need a split pin.

Yes it needs a cotter pin! You may need to use a pick to dig out the paint to find the hole for the pin to go in.

You can leave the cotter pin out if you want to have a wreck.

That's the one with the cotter pin issue. BUT are the perches on the correct ends - boss to the back.

I was almost sure a cotter pin was needed, but thought I would ask. I am glad I did because of all the good cotter pin information that was posted. Thanks to you all.

Castellated nuts are designed to use cotter pins & not lock washers. However, not every nut on a Model T is a castellated one. So make sure the nuts are good before you try and insert your pin.

Thanks for posting this cotter pin use chart.
I find even this "trivia" level of info very interesting & helpful to my T knowledge base.
Thats appreciation to any & all posting this sort of enlightening information.
