Does grease keep them from wearing or attract road grit that makes them wear faster?

No Grease ,it’ll just pick up grit. One is almost always fiber, and that is the expendable piece of the puzzle. It takes a long time to wear one out, I never have in my lifetime.

Just guessing, as I cannot tell for sure, but I think you have one too many pieces in your drive. I just sold the correct mounting stud for that swivel and would eliminate the extra stuff there, Micheal.

The mounting stud currently on my ‘25 Coupe is too short, I believe, and a previous owner added the phenolic block as a extender so the gears would mesh properly. All my past Model T’s had aftermarket speedometer set ups so I am not familiar with the correct parts or even what the correct sizes/parts numbers to look for in the process.
Eventually need to find a rebuilt Stewart 160 with surround to go in a wood dash.

Michael,
Don't use any grease on the road or pinion gears. The grease will attract dirt and wear out the pinion gear rapidly.
As for the swivel mount, there are two types of mounts used on later Model Ts. The mount you are using fits a Chevrolet, so the pinion gear and road/wheel gear do not align . Here are two photos of the parts that mount the swivel joint on a Model T. In the first photo, note the difference in length of the mount on the left and the one on the right. The mount on the left (Parts #'s 11295 and 11296) is for the Model T, while the mount on the right is for the Chevrolet (the one that is on your car). The second photo show the swivel mount that is totally adjustable (Part #s 4007, 4025 and 3986). All of these swivel mounting parts are readily available. I hope this helps. Russ Furstnow
