I bought a reproduction Ford timer, new roller, roller pin, brass shield, and felt. The brass shield and felt were missing from my car, so I am unsure about how they go. I pushed the felt seal snugly in place (I think) but what holds the brass shield? Is tgere a washer between it and the roller!

If I remember correctly, the timer holds the shield in place, so when the timer is off the shield will be loose.

On roller timers that require lubing a tiny bit every 200 miles or so I have never found it necessary to use the felt or brass shield.

The last few engines I put together I did with the modern cam seal and didn’t use the felt or shield. All is good. Clean the timer housing when I think about it and go on with life.

If you use the brass shield make sure it is big enough to span the timer case. Some repro shields are too small and are not held in place by the timer adequately.
