Johnson Tinning compound
Has anyone used the Johnson tinning compounds for doing the caps? I have not priced them yet.

Thinking this one might work;
JOHNSON'S TIN-EZY POWDER with PURE TIN
This Full Strength Tinning Without Lead
Johnson's Tin-Ezy with Pure Tin tins quickly, yet contains no lead. Like Johnson's regular Tin-Ezy, it is made in a low-humidity environment to keep it dry and free-flowing for increased storage life. This special chloride flux formulation is blended with only Grade-A Pure Tin powder. Johnson Tin-Ezy with Pure Tin is compatible with all solders however, it is particularly useful for tinning new metal, using Johnson's 497 Lead-Free Solder. Melting temperature is 450° F. Residues are water soluble and should be removed after soldering.
ITEM SINGLE CASE NO. IN CASE SHIP WT.
1 Lb. Jar 20-62 20-63 12 14#
3 Lb. Jar 20-64 60-65 6 21#
12 Lb. Pail 20-66 20-67 4 52#
Lot will depend on price.

Re: Johnson's Tinning compound
Thanks Dan. I did find one supplier that has a price listed, $40 for the 1# container. I will check with Johnson next week and see what their price is.

Re: Johnson's Tinning compound
I ordered the E127 tinning compound this AM from Johnson. Cost is $33.50 plus shipping for the 1# size. The catalog number is; 16-02. I have not got the actual shipping cost, but was told between $18 and $20 UPS shipping and handling.

Re: Johnson Tinning compound
UPS dropped it off today. With shipping/handling from Iowa to Portland, Oregon, the total came to 56.98. After reading the poop sheet, I am going to have to rethink where and how I use this stuff.

Johnson Manufacturing Company, 114 Lost Grove Rd, Princeton, IA is just 18 miles away from me, North. Princeton is a rural river town on the Mississippi, up river from Le Claire IA (American Pickers). Town is a popular stopping place for boaters in the summer (good food & bars) .
Shipping chemicals sometimes require special handling, a job for UPS. Was the package marked hazardous?

The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.

"Was the package marked hazardous?" Didn't see any stickers on the box it was shipped in. It is the fumes given off in the small, un-ventilated area where I was going to be working. Zinc Ammonium Chloride and Tin
