OT - All weather car cover suggestions needed

Post by mgarrett » Sun Jan 16, 2022 11:21 am

Looking for a quality, all-weather, durable car cover for my 1940 Ford Deluxe 2 door sedan. Unfortunately, my car is being stored outdoors under a steel carport for the time being. Cheap, light-duty covers just don't do the job as well as I would like, so hoping some of the guys here on the T Forum might be able to supply some feedback about other options. The main criteria is that it be as WATERPROOF as possible.
Thanks to all.

You do not want waterproof.

The previous owner of my ‘41 Ford ruined the paint on the roof and trunk lid by covering the car with a waterproof cover. A breathable cover is a better option. I only cover my cars with light fabric and only when they are inside.

Thanks for your viewpoint on "waterproof". I agree that would not be a good idea. I'll work on another solution.

Depending on ur location...mostly regarding wind, would a decent plastic tarp, well fastened and even "weighted" at the bottom all around the carport openings work?

I have been using California extreme weather waterproof covers with no issues. They work. Cost is about $400+ now. I just noticed how old this post was. Sorry

Take a look at CarCapsule.

They have versions for outside as well, but a standard unit will work if it will still be under the carport. No building permits - and nothing is touching the vehicle as it’s air inflated. It will keep the vehicle clean, rodent free, and no condensation problems.

Have 2, one for over 14 years.

There is no alternative for fully enclosed
climate controlled storage for any vehicle
you value.

Any waterproof cover will not allow ground moisture
to naturally evaporate and promote mold - mildew - rust.

Any car cover will rub the paint off.

I don’t put car covers on vehicles I transport
in my enclosed trailer for that reason.

An inflatable fully enclosed cover requires electricity
to keep it inflated - and - depending on the amount
of rain or snow you get - will not really last.

Either rent a space or build one … 💡

Most of us in this situation use an enclosed trailer. Most of us with older vehicles, T's, need a trailer. They can be bought in many styles and conditions.
Some are even not road worthy but can be used to store vehicles and parts. Just a thought, Dick C.

Would something like this work. Also read the description if these carefully, some don't include a frame
