Ready to put the engine back together on the 15 Touring. Had to be bored to 20 over. Pulled out the new rings and found out they were std, not 20. This is for domed HC pistons, and when I contacted Lang's and Snyders, found out they are on back order. Now what to do? Any one have a set of 20 over Hastings HC rings to trade for std?

I don’t know if this is a solution or not but it is something I had to do. I had to go onto the Hastings website and search around for rings that was the right thickness and diameter. The difference is I have Ford Y block pistons. Then I ordered from Summit Racing. I have no idea if this is a solution that may be something you can look into.

Another option is to buy even bigger ones and then carefully file the ends to get the correct end clearance. I have done this once in the past. Works fine!

Try your local engine biulders. Best as I recall 265 Cu.In. chevy is 3.75 bore and the ring grooves in HC are the same. If you can pick up a set of .020 rings?? you will have to buy them for 8 cyl. so you will have spares. Double check I could be wrong.

Be careful with this!
I had a situation where I needed to do that, and it turned out the one size larger rings I had were slightly thicker in depth than the proper oversize. Got the engine running, but before it could warm up, the heat expanded the pistons just enough that the thickness of the rings caused the pistons to seize. Allow to cool for twenty minutes and I could crank it again. Only to seize again after half a minute.
They had plenty of gap after I ground them, so they were not gap seizing.
I am sure some rings are different in that dimension.

Mark could be correct. Rockauto has 265 rings Hastings #2M5685 rings in .020 they are 5/64 compression & 3/16 oil. Double check.

Pretty sure that ring set has a MOLY coated top ring and you will most likely not be happy with those in a T engine. Hastings does make a an iron top ring set for a 265 Chevy that would work fine if your pistons use a 5/64, 5/64, 3/16 ring setup.

The iron set is probably a Hastings 5658.

Great to hear. Dan that is a possibility and I would not run moly rings in a bore that is not new. It's getting to where we have to work with what we can get rather than what we wan't. And a set of moly rings for a V8 will have 8 cast iron compression rings as a last resort. I'm finding some parts hard to find for my 1980's vehicles. Some day we will have to look to car guys in Cuba for advice!
