Re: Overhead installation
Not necessarily.
I have a 20 touring with a rajo. The builder moved the BODY back 2" Hood extended. Hood shelves are wood. Steering frame mount back.
Fenders are not moved. Rear fenders are close to the doors, but fit. Subtle. Firewall uncut. I call it the monster. Frankenstein's monster.

Re: Overhead installation
Hank Lee posted some pictures in the past showing how he moved the existing firewall "hump" vertically and then added material below that to give clearance for a head. Perhaps he will repost those here. Obviously you loose your coil box, but....

Re: Overhead installation
If you want to use an original coil box.., just dish more for the insulator(s) clearance! Been there done that!

Re: Overhead installation
I had no problems installing the Roof 8 ohv on my 26-7 4 door. Yes I had to install a flexible choke cable and adjusting the mixture was no longer possible from the dash. And yes it needs a fuel pump!
The 4 door of course has the fuel tank under the seat (the same as yours). A cowl mounted gas tank would likely be a problem, but I haven’t looked at it.

You can see that the head really doesn’t extend past the rear head bolt!

Re: Overhead installation
I made a wooden firewall for my Roof in my speedster and gave room for the cover to be removed.
P. S. Nice work Henry.When did I do that?

Re: Overhead installation
I did the same as Hank. Had a local hot rod metal shop put recess in metal firewall. Looks really professional and almost "factory". I run a dizzy, so coils removed leaving more room for recess.

Re: Overhead installation
Gentleman thanks for the reply with good information. Now I have a few questions.
Richard what year ford did you make the wooden fire wall for?
Speedy I have learned that once changes dictates 10 more. Were there any changes to how the pedals and hand lever came thru the floor boards?
Henry the Roof Liberty Eight does extend behind the block and prevents the firewall from sitting down properly.
I would prefer not to cut the fire wall but that make be the route I take.
Thanks again
Ralph

Re: Overhead installation
I'm contemplating installing a RAJO C-35 in my '26 coupe. I suspect I'll need to modify the firewall but wonder if I can "easily" run my coilbox and coils.

Re: Overhead installation
Noel, not much room between the firewall and fuel tank, the Rajo rocker cover was modified to clear on the 26/7 fire wall. I removed my head as the cover dosen't seal up and stink of oil fumes.

Re: Overhead installation
Floor board slots extended. Brake lever in stock position. Pedals are bent back about an inch, heated above the cams. "The Monster"Ralph F wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 12:16 pmGentleman thanks for the reply with good information. Now I have a few questions.
