I have purchased a visor cover replacement for my coupe. I have studied the instructions, and they are not all that clear. It appears the installation is going to be difficult. The frame is original.

I am interested in what others have experienced in doing the installation and appreciate any helpful suggestions.

The top piece in the last photo is the stiffener fabric.

You need a sewing machine to stitch it in place as originally was to keep the two pieces from flapping in the wind.

If you have an Amish harness maker they can sew it for you, like they do on a buggy dashboard.

The visor on my '26 Fordor was never stitched. A good thing, since I had to remove the covering to repair the frame. Don't know about what was done on '27 Coupes however.

Do you have the 2 short steel pieces that fit on the underside, to hold the material into the corners? (Hard to describe...)

One more...

Take the frame and material (long grain ?) to an auto upholstery shop. They’ll need to sew the perimeter of 3.frame rectangles. But the secret is TIGHTNESS. Ideally this would be done on a hot august day but heat lamps are definitely called for.

I am glad to be watching this thread since I have a 26 Tudor that I am working on right now and need to redo my visor. Jerry it looks better with out all the sewing if you can get it tight.

I could bounce a dime off of it. However, the covering was made by my dad, so "custom fit" you might say. Don't know how tight you can get a covering from a "catalog" supplier.

As to it being stitched originally, this was my grandfather's car from new. Before my dad made the new covering, it still had the unstitched original in place. It was in perfect condition, but brittle as glass. I do not doubt however that there were stitched versions from Ford. Not sure when that became a "thing"...

The attached photo shows the "stitching" on the top side of my cover. My supplier told me that all most all of the customers do not want to expend the time/effort/expense to stitch the cover to the frame. Therefore, the cover is provided with the "stitching" shown to imitate actual stitching that some of the original covers had.

As of now, I am undecided whether to stitch my cover or Install the cover per the instructions.

Stitch them within the 3 frame rectangles. Otherwise it’ll billow up after a drive.

A question for those of you with a visor that has not been stitched: What has been your experience with the material flopping in the wind?
