Regarding the (12) piece ring and gland manifold gasket set, is the 3/32” x 1 1/2”O.D. copper ring referred to as the ring, or the gland, same question regarding the 5/32” x 1 1/4” metal ring. Is it the gland or the ring? Are the ring and gland gaskets used with the 3 hole white asbestos gaskets or by themselves? I would think by themselves or the copper ring would not be able to compress as flat as necessary if the soft asbestos is used. Jim Patrick

These are the original style Ford parts. The steel ones are the glands, but I call them steel rings for clarity. They are meant to be used "alone together" with the steel rings holding the manifold in place and the copper crush gaskets sealing the gap. I put a little hi-temp RTV on the copper, especially if the mating surfaces have any rust pits. Part numbers are 3063 (copper) and 3064 (steel).

Thank you, Steve. Have you seen the 6 pc. solid copper manifold gasket set whereby the gland and ring are one combined unit? The gland is pressed so that the center circumference of the gland is crimped, forming the ring around the gland. Jim Patrick

I actually prefer the one piece style. I have found burned and oxidized remains of the split steel rings in my muffler in the past. The split rings are made from mild steel and do not hold up well when exposed directly to hot exhaust gas. I never understood why the rings that are sold are not made from heat resistant stainless so they lost.
I believe the one piece one are made down under in either Australia or New Zeland. They cost a little more but work well. I found them easier to install if you add a slight chamfer to the sharp edges where they fit into the block and manifold.

Yes, but I've never used them. I've heard of the problem with steel rings Dan described, but I haven't had it so far.

There is nothing wrong with the original style rings and glands. I dope them with high heat silicone gasket cement and they work fine and can be used over and over. If you have a warped manifold then there is going to be problems.

The one piece gaskets were available back in the day. I find them expensive now days, so I stick with the original design.

I actually think that the glands and rings, if properly aligned in the ports of the block and manifolds and the manifolds tightened against the block, can straighten a warped manifold once the heat of the engine hits it. If the manifold is badly warped, it may have to be done in stages so as not to break the cast iron. Jim Patrick

No sir - impossible to get all 4 exhaust rings to start in a warped manifold !

I swear by the one-piece rings. Have them on all my engines, and even a few I no longer own!! Even got a spare set coming once they're back in stock with the vendor.

Are the single unit sets as hard to get as other T parts from the vendors? I listed a set on eBay last night. Will list more sets soon. Jim Patrick

Not all vendors do sell them. As I recall, there is one in Australia you can buy from, as I have done that quite a few years ago. Even with shipping halfway around the world, the end price was about the same as domestic.

They come from Fuel Tank and Radiator Servicein Queensland, Australia. Much cheaper direcr from them, especially if you ordet a few sets to spread the postage costs.
They can be chamfered to make them easier it to fit. They can be re-used.
Allan from down under.
