I have 2 sets of top irons for a 26\27 roadster one set is about 1 inch taller. Could one year be different than the other ? Another question.... The taller one has holes on the inside with the remains of spring loaded sockets. Is this for side curtains ? Are the sockets available ? Thank you.

Hi Dave. I bet those are the metal body sockets that push button fasteners go into. You should have 3 on each side and the rear side wings of your rear curtain should attach to those. I have also seen lift a dots and anzos used there. With the difference in your top assemblies, is 1 a reproduction set?

What is a spring loaded socket? Never heard of such a thing!

The sockets for side curtain fasteners used on the '26-27. Mounted to body holes and to top iron holes to receive the pushbutton fasteners.
Sockets ( p/n A24562 Female) were covered openings with spring 'door'. The fasteners (p/n A24566 Male) have pushbutton 'grippers' that hang inside the rim of the sockets.

I want to thank Mike at Classtique for reminding me that the sockets on the inside of my top irons are to secure the rear edge of the top, and Dan for the wonderful pictures. I have never seen the male portion and it's easy to see how it works.
Now I guess my question is are the snaps available? And if not, how do I deal with the six holes with the application of a new top?
Thanks,
Dave

I’m also installing a new top on my 1926 roadster, curious on where to get these snaps (both male and female) and also the best source for the hooks and springs for the reproduction Gypsy curtains I have?

Happy to help

I have the push button fasteners and metal body sockets for sale on my website under the hardware and yard goods tab.
www.classtiqueupholstery.com. I have the ones made in the USA and the Taiwan ones. They are not interchangeable. I highly recommend the ones made in the USA. The Taiwan ones come loose after some time. Most of my customers prefer the lift a dots instead of the push button fasteners.

I don't have any made in the USA with the prongs, just the standard style. I send out gypsy wings very often. Mine don't come with the hooks or springs. It's very rare a customer even asks about the hooks or springs. I think people are getting those from Snyder's.
