What is the purpose of firing the plugs at a 45 deg angle?? Anyone please comment !

Wasn’t that an oil burning thing? Getting them to last longer without fouling? I seem to recall plug extensions for more modern engines for that purpose. Wow. WAY back.

That appears to be a home-brew attempt to limit spark plug fouling due to worn out piston rings or poor quality fuel. The non-original, accessory manifold assembly may indicate that the car owner was using kerosene for fuel. The pipe fittings would have prevented carbon fouling of the spark plugs and would also have lowered compression, which may have facilitated using kerosene or similar low grade fuel. Removing the pipe fittings will increase compression and improve engine performance.

I have never seen that before. If it served a good purpose there no doubt would more examples of it around.

That may have been done during WWII to get around gasoline rationing. It looks like a good kerosene setup. A gallon of gasoline and 8 gallons of kerosene...

Looks like that engine is using 1/2” NPT 45 degree elbows for the cure for what ever the problem was. If anybody wants to use them they are available at most hardware stores.

Everything under that hood looks very tidy, except for the pipe fittings. I'm thinking it was done on purpose to run kerosene, or a kerosene blend. As late as WWII, a lot of farmers had experience running kerosene in tractors, and it would have been practical to adapt a Model T to operate on cheap, available kerosene during WWII wartime restrictions. A kerosene/gasoline blend could have stretched a rationed allotment of gasoline considerabley. A Model T with a hot spot manifold outfit could have performed well with the arrangement in the picture.
