Contact Between Individual Leafs in a Spring

This a follow-up to my other post with the same subject.

The first photo here is a leaf that has four Ford scripts. The locations are shown by the yellow pieces of tape. They are numbered 1 thru 4 from right to left. The next four photos are close-ups of those locations.

The purpose of this post is to show that the only indication of "rubbing" contact on the leaf is at the end (location #1). I would not have expected "rubbing" contact at location #3, being that it is relative close to the center of the leaf. However, I would have expected some indication of contact at #2 and #4.

Note that the close-ups at 2, 3, and 4 show that the script is "raised" not "imprinted" or "stamped" into the metal. The point being that if there was contact at those locations the "raised" script should have shown it.

One last thing, I am curious. What does the "D" next to Ford mean?

Then add it to your other post. That's how this works.
