After researching prior posts, I did not find an answer regarding the two different Firewall Brackets I have pictured here. Both are clearly the 23-27 style with the square bolt holes, but one has the distinct recess in that portion of the bracket that attaches to the firewall. Otherwise they are alike. Can someone point out which would be correct for my 1924? or when the recessed version was used verses the straight?

From all of the 26-27 I have seen, The bracket with the large notch is correct and the other is earlier.

The bottom bracket with the notch is 26-27. The other bracket is late 22 to 25 if it is a steel firewall bracket. I can no tell from the photo if it is a steel or wood firewall bracket.. Except for the notch it should match the 26-27 bracket. as to shape if it is a steel firewall bracket. I am using my cell phone so I can not easily do a link. If you do a Google search of the words, firewall bracket Donnie Brown. mtfca you may find the post with the photos and description of the bracket styles I posted awhile back.

The later style has the notch.

Notch = reduction in amount of material used, which would make sense as being the later one.

The Model T Judging guidelines do not specify a change to the notched style for 26-27. Does anyone have a good source for this that shows the change in the steel firewall brackets ?

Metal fire wall brackets have sq. holes (for carriage bolts) in the uprights. Wood firewall have round holes in the uprights.

"AR" after the factory numbers normally means after replacement, in this bracket, means you can interchange the two types, the later one 'AR", for the '26-'27 has the long notch, but is will interchange with the other metal firewall brackets 8722B or 8721B, which have no notch.

Original '27 touring has this style, but..have seen some Nov '25 and earlier, Improved Cars, with the 'B' type bracket, which seem original to the car, so date of use in assembly of the 'AR' type is unknown to me, date would be found in the change order card records.

The 26-7 bodies have integral firewalls attached to the cowl. The floorboard risers attach to the firewall with two rivets on each side. The later brackets with these notches clear these rivets.

As I recall, the 26-7s are backwards from the earlier ones. Some of the earlier ones have square holes and some have round holes.

Based on these images I would say the flat are original and the notched are repro's.

Those repro brackets in Lang’s catalog are listed for all metal firewalls, but captioned as 26-27 style, that way these work on any 23-27 with metal firewall.
