So i pulled the oil pan to see what was under there and when i went to put it back on , i realized that there were 3 bolts about a quarter inch longer than the rest. Where do they do?

There should be no reason for 3 longer bolts. Most likely, when the engine was assembled, somebody just pulled some bolts from their nuts & bolts stash and 3 of them were a tad longer than the rest.

Unless you have an A crank, all the bolts are the same length. The longer bolts can go back away from the rod bottoms travel.

You have to pull the engine to remove the pan, so I'm guessing you mean you pulled the lower cover from the pan. Depending on the year, it takes 13 or 17 bolts, all of them ⁵⁄₁₆-18 x ⁷⁄₁₆.

Originally, and correctly, they are all the same length. Realistically, however, over the hundred years now a lot of them got replaced by anything handy that would work. The longer ones should NOT be put anywhere within the position of the throw of the crankshaft. Also allow for part of the angle of the crankshaft between 1 & 2 and 3 & 4. Roughly half of all bolts should NOT be any longer than the originals. About half of them can be a half inch longer with no ill effects.

Install the proper lenght bolt and don't worry about getting the longer bolts in the the wrong position.

So what else did you find? Was the inside of the pan clean?
