TW timer 1/4” round brush
Does anyone know the length of a new one. I love how my T runs with this timer. The brush is getting quite worn down. No brushes available anywhere, but I’m sure I can make a new one.

Re: TW timer 1/4” round brush
Google their website. There is a picture. Scale it up. It looks to me about 1 1/4" long, not including the spring.
You should be able to tell by compressing the brush in its holder & doing a bit of math.

My new spare rectangular brushes are 1 inch. Safe to assume the round would be the same, as the rotor is the same, just the innards is different.

I knew Tony Wiltshire well and he shared much about his timer design.
My understanding is the brush was an off the shelf item, but I do not know the source and I never asked.
Try St Mary's Carbon or other brush manufacturers who make many kinds of brushes for motors and I think you might be able to locate the source.

Re: TW timer 1/4” round brush
I was an agent for the TW here in Australia, after Tony's passing I tried to find a replacement brush but couldn't find the exact size. I gave away the last 2 early style to the one person I knew still used one and now am down to a few worn round ones keeping one T with the TW. My others I've just put a roller in using the TW case.

If you post a photo of the brush, I just may have one. I purchased a collection of timer brushes a year or so ago. While many are the standard brass or steel stock Ford ones, I also have several unique accessory ones.

Re: TW timer 1/4” round brush
Thanks Ron for this info. I just brought up their website, they can even attempt custom production. So these people just may be a source to keep this otherwise fantastic timer that Tony (RIP) developed. As I've said multiple times, I have these (rectangular brush model) on 2 of my stock ignition cars ( torpedo came with T.F.), and they couldn't run any better. Luckily, I have a couple rectangular brushes for my "fleet". I may put the round one on the Torpedo this year. But good to know just maybe these folks can help us out if need be.Ron Patterson wrote: ↑Wed May 11, 2022 9:49 pmNeil

You can email St Mary's along with your photo above and I 'll bet they could ID that brush and the source.

Looks around an 1 inch long. Found several sources online. I’ll get one ordered and if it works I’ll post it.

Re: TW timer 1/4” round brush
I believe Tony used a brush from McMaster-Carr. Item #65705K48. A word of warning. If you can feel the edge of the contacts in the housing, it needs to be remachined. If not the brush will wear very quickly.

I have the original square brush- can I assume that Tony got these from McMaster as well?

I just ran the "loops" with "Angie" at St Mary's who gave it a shot but was unable to match the round TW brush. I'll keep looking.

Re: TW timer 1/4” round brush
The McMaster-Carr brush part # above provided by Farmer J is made of graphite and I believe is too soft for timer application. I bought some and when drilling the small hole requierd for installation I found the brush was very soft. I suppose it will work but I wouldn't think it would last very long. The original TW brush was made of a copper/carbon or graphite composition.

The ones I got from McMaster-Carr are soft. I’m using my New Day timer until I find the right brushes.
