Model A Crank
I hear all the time which Model T's had the best crankshaft. But if you are using a model A crank, I never hear which to use for them. I have plenty of both designs of Model A cranks. So I do not want to use the wrong ones if one is better. Are there any other differences besides the thickness of the throws?

30 years ago a old boy that raced T's told me that the bottom one in your picture can't be broke. I mentioned this to one of the current engine builders, he said he wouldn't use one. Who knows. Either one is better than a stock T Crank! Have someone experienced in shortening cranks do that.

The bottom, "beaver tail" crank was the one the old time local racer guys said to run.

We've seen more of the earlier beaver tail version of the Model A crack than the later style rounded style crank.
As with any crank you can say one is better than another, the only test worth doing is to have it wet magnafluxed.

Even with all the holes drilled in a Model A crank..., Never seen one close to being balanced. Ford pretended to pay his people well and they pretended to work by just drilling random balance holes!
